History[ edit ] The charter school idea in the United States was originated in by Ray Budde, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Albert ShankerPresident of the American Federation of Teachersembraced the concept inwhen he called for the reform of the public schools by establishing "charter schools" or "schools of choice. As originally conceived, the ideal model of a charter school was as a legally and financially autonomous public school without tuition, religious affiliation, or selective student admissions that would operate much like a private business—free from many state laws and district regulations, and accountable more for student outcomes rather than for processes or inputs such as Carnegie Units and teacher certification requirements.
My experience attending a FCPS high school was great! The academic courses available were fantastic and included IB and AP courses dependent on schools. This made for true college readiness and preparation.
The teachers for the most part were genuine and truly focused on teaching and improving student knowledge. There were tons of clubs, activity, and service learning options.
The overall school culture, spirit, and diversity was outstanding and a big perk. The sports teams were not the strongest and didn't have a winning streak but the individuals involved in them were committed. The food is decent and edible but could seriously benefit from improvement!
Currently, I am a student at Chantilly Highschool. Every single year I have a variety of choices that I can choose from for classes for the upcoming school year that I can choose based on my interests.
Our school offers an incredible academy that is filled with many different courses that could be your first step in your career.
The school also has a lot of different clubs that you can join that I enjoy going too! All of the teachers and staff at my school are very good! They are always open after school for help and always want to ensure hat the students understand what they're learning in their classes.
Another thing I've noticed is that our school is very safe. Everywhere in the halls are security guards making sure that our school is protected which I am extremely grateful for!
